2020 Roadmap to Success
Another year is here! and OMG what a year it has been! Do you remember your New Year Resolutions for 2020? Have you done them yet? Here is a Roadmap to Success, to help you.
This is usually the time of year when we check to see if we are on track with our goals. It’s also a time for reflection on all the good things that happened so far. I understand that 2020 isn’t going like anyone as planned, but that doesn’t mean we can’t finish it strong.
So, to finish the year strong, consider this 3-step process to get you going quickly:
Step 1: Visualisation
Visualisation is all about using the power of your imagination to envision the successful completion of your goals. Start by visualising about all your wishes for this year. In your mind’s eye, there are no limits. You can apply this to all areas of your life: Career, Family, Friends, Significant Other, Health, Finances, Environment, Personal Growth. It’s the end of 2020 and you’re looking back on the year – what would you want it to look like? Describe that ideal vision. There are many tools to assist you in this step. Here are a few suggestions.
- Create a vision board. Start by cutting out pictures from magazines or printing images from sites like Instagram that best describe your ideal situation. Create a collage of pictures, images & words to add to your vision board.
- If vision boards are not your thing. You can also journal about your ideal life or ideal year.
Step 2: Planning
Benjamin Franklin once said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”. So start by planning. This process will allow you to break down your goal into small actionable steps. Once completed these steps will lead to the goal being achieved. Make an outline or plan to accomplish the goal whilst utilizing the resources you have available to you.
Or can make available and including any constraints such as time or money. There are many ways to do this step. Breaking your goals down into small actions helps you tackle them without feeling overwhelmed. This could be done by simply making a list of every activity you need to complete to reach the goal.
Then prioritize the list by item of importance and in order of completion required. Note, some activities are dependent on the completion of others. Then identify timelines for each activity. Finally, move each activity item into your calendar and block off time to complete. This way you will be committing to completing them and taking the first step.
Step 3: Actioning the Roadmap to Success
The visualisation step represents about 20% of the roadmap. The planning step represents 60% of the process and where most of the work is planned. The final 20% represents the actual action taken. When you have a clear vision and a well thought out plan, taking action becomes so much easier. One step at a time will get you to your goal. But please don’t underestimate this step, because things won’t always go as planned. As Myke Tyson once said: “Everybody has a plan until they are punched in the mouth”. Follow your roadmap and take control of what has been a very shitty year so far.
This is how you can create your own 2020 Roadmap to Success.
If you are wondering what goals you can still take on for the rest of the year, here are a couple of suggestions.
